Takhrij Ahadith wa Athar Hayat al-Hayawan li al-Damiri min al-Ta ila al-Jim (full title: al-Ahadith al-Marfu‘ah wa al-Mawqufah fi Kitab Hayat al-Hayawan al-Kubra li al-Damiri min Bidayat Harf al-Ta ila Nihayat Harf al-Jim: Takhrijan wa Dirasah) is an academic study and Hadith extraction (takhrij) by Ibrahim bin Abdullah al-Mudayhish . It investigates the attributed prophetic reports (marfu‘) and companion traditions (mawquf) cited in the zoological encyclopedia Hayat al-Hayawan al-Kubra by the Shafi'i scholar Kamal al-Din al-Damiri (d. 808 AH / 1405 CE), covering entries arranged alphabetically from the letter Ta (ت) through Jim (ج) .
Background and Academic Context
The work originated as a master's thesis submitted to the Department of Sunnah and its Sciences in the Faculty of Usul al-Din at Imam Mohammad Ibn Saud Islamic University in Riyadh during the academic year 1431–1432 AH (2010–2011 CE), supervised by Abdullah bin Nasir al-Shaqari .
It formed part of a coordinated departmental initiative comprising eight master's theses that collectively extracted and critically evaluated the narrations across al-Damiri's entire encyclopedia . Alongside extracting the narrations in their respective alphabetical segments, each researcher was assigned specific aspects of al-Damiri's hadith methodology; al-Mudayhish's allocated methodological components were al-Damiri's technique of citing traditions (tariqat iradihi li al-hadith) and his method of hadith extraction (manhajuhu fi al-takhrij) .
Scope and Related Publications
The core applied text focuses on locating the primary transmission sources of each hadith and athar cited within the assigned alphabetical range of Hayat al-Hayawan al-Kubra, analyzing their chains of transmission, and determining their authenticity and status .
During the preparation of the thesis, al-Mudayhish drafted an extensive introductory biography of al-Damiri and an examination of his overall scholarship. Upon the counsel of his thesis supervisor, he separated and expanded this biographical and methodological material into an independent monograph titled Manhaj al-Damiri fi Kitabihi Hayat al-Hayawan, which was published in print in 1435 AH (2014 CE), while the original thesis itself was made available electronically .
