Tahqiq al-Matalib bi Sharh Dalil al-Talib (The Verification of Objectives: A Commentary on the Seeker's Guide) is a contemporary Hanbali legal work by Abu al-Mundhir al-Minyawi (Mahmud ibn Muhammad ibn Mustafa al-Minyawi), written as an extensive commentary on Mar'i ibn Yusuf al-Karmi’s (d. 1033 AH / 1624 CE) jurisprudential primer Dalil al-Talib li Nayl al-Matalib.

Background and Scope

The base text, Dalil al-Talib, is an authoritative concise manual in late Hanbali jurisprudence abridged by Mar'i al-Karmi from Ibn al-Najjar al-Futuhi’s Muntaha al-Iradat. Al-Minyawi commenced Tahqiq al-Matalib as an exhaustive, detailed explanation of the text.

This published portion (qit'a) covers only the opening sections of the Book of Purification (Kitab al-Tahara), specifically the chapter on waters (Bab al-Miyah) and part of the chapter on vessels (Bab al-Aniyah). In a notice dated 12 Dhu al-Qi'da 1431 AH (20 October 2010 CE) in Minya, Egypt, the author explained that after completing the section on waters and part of the section on vessels, he paused work on this detailed commentary to compose a more concise commentary on the same base text, titled al-Tahrir Sharh al-Dalil.

Publication

The work was issued in its first edition in 1432 AH / 2011 CE, with copyright reserved to the author.
