Silsilat Kitab al-Muslimun fi al-Alam (Muslims in the World Book Series) is an informational publication project established by the Ministry of Islamic Affairs, Endowments, Da'wah, and Guidance in Saudi Arabia to provide concise, factual monographs on Muslim populations and communities across the globe .
Administration and Supervision
The project was established under the general supervision of Dr. Abdullah ibn Abd al-Muhsin al-Turki, the Minister of Islamic Affairs, Endowments, Da'wah, and Guidance, with oversight entrusted to the Ministry's Undersecretariat for Islamic Affairs in cooperation with the Center for Islamic Research and Studies .
A specialized Supervisory and Follow-up Committee was appointed to manage the series:
- Dr. Adnan ibn Muhammad Wazzan (Chair)
- Dr. Musaid ibn Ibrahim al-Hadithi (Vice Chair)
- Dr. Salih ibn Ghanim al-Sadlan (Member)
- Dr. Mani' ibn Hammad al-Juhani (Member)
- Dr. Mahmud ibn Ismail Sini (Member)
- Dr. Abdullah ibn Ahmad al-Zayd (Member)
- Dr. Jamal al-Din Mahmud (Member)
- Muhammad ibn Nasir al-Mufayyiz (Rapporteur)
Objectives and Scope
The initiative was designed to produce dedicated monthly volumes on individual countries, covering both Muslim-majority states and countries where Muslims live as minorities or expatriate communities . Its principal goals include:
- Introducing the geographical, historical, and demographic realities of each country, along with the history of how Islam entered and spread in the region .
- Documenting the social, economic, and religious conditions of Muslim populations, their ethnic backgrounds, and the specific challenges and pressures they face, including ethnic conflicts or sectarian marginalization .
- Profiling active Islamic organizations, schools, mosques, and endowments, compiling verified statistical surveys of Islamic infrastructure and religious personnel .
- Identifying practical needs for Islamic educational programs, da'wah, training for imams and preachers, and material support .
Structure and Research Guidelines
Unlike voluminous multi-topic academic works, each publication is formatted as a compact medium-sized monograph (14×21 cm) ranging between 60 and 100 pages . The outer cover features a series emblem depicting the globe inscribed with the Quranic verse وجعلناكم شعوبا وقبائل لتعارفوا ("and made you into peoples and tribes that you may know one another") along with a map of the featured country .
The series framework prescribes a standardized structure for each volume:
- Ministerial Foreword .
- Geographical Data: Location, area, demographic composition, major cities, Muslim population centers, economic status, political divisions, and cultural profile .
- Historical Overview: Emergence of the state and the history and modes of Islam's arrival .
- Religious Landscape: Juristic schools, Islamic sects, Christian and Jewish denominations, and other religious groups .
- Living Conditions of Muslims: Social, economic, political, and cultural realities .
- Islamic Activities and Organizations: Administrative structures, ongoing programs, prominent centers, internal and external difficulties, and proposed solutions .
- Needs and Assistance Channels: Proposals for funding, education, and preacher delegations .
- Sources, References, and Appendices .
Authors commissioned for the series are required to write in standard Arabic using an objective, reporting style that presents the factual reality without offensive characterizations, polemics, or condemnatory language against any state or minority community . Contributions must rely on up-to-date data, detailed demographic statistics, maps, documented references, and provide Latin transliterations for non-Arabic personal and place names .
