Silsilat Imaniyat

Silsilat Imaniyat (Faith Series) is an Islamic theological and spiritual lecture series by the contemporary scholar and preacher Muhammad Hassan, dedicated to explaining the essence, realities, and practical implications of Islamic faith (iman).

Content and Themes

The material defines faith in accordance with the Sunni doctrine as consisting of verbal proclamation with the tongue (qawl bi-l-lisan), firm conviction within the heart (tasdiq bi-l-janan), and bodily action with the physical faculties and limbs ('amal bi-l-jawarih wa-l-arkan). Under this framework, faith is dynamic rather than static; it increases through righteous deeds and acts of obedience, and decreases on account of sins, slips, and transgressions. Hassan emphasizes the necessity of continually revitalizing one's faith, citing the prophetic report that faith wears out within the heart just as a garment wears out, requiring believers to ask God to renew faith in their hearts.

The discourses highlight the experiential and internal dimensions of faith, presenting it as possessing a distinct reality, taste (ta'm), sweetness (halawa), and spiritual illumination (nur). Drawing upon hadith narrations, the text compares the human heart to the moon: just as passing clouds obscure the moon's light until they disperse, the accumulation of sins forms a veil over the illumination of faith in the heart, which is dispelled through sincere repentance to God.

A primary focus within the series is actualizing belief in God through His divine names and sublime attributes. Hassan stresses that mere verbal enumeration of divine names is insufficient; rather, the believer is called to manifest their practical implications in daily life, such as living in mindful realization of names like al-Razzaq (the Provider), al-Rahman (the Most Merciful), al-Qawiyy (the All-Strong), al-Qayyum (the Sustainer of all existence), and al-Muqit (the All-Nourisher).
