Silsilat al-Qisas - al-Munjid

Silsilat al-Qisas (The Stories Series) is a collection of transcribed Islamic educational lectures delivered by the contemporary scholar Muhammad Salih al-Munajjid (b. 1381 AH / 1962 CE) . The work focuses on extracting spiritual admonitions, theological lessons, and legal rulings from prophetic traditions, Quranic accounts, and early Islamic historical events .

Method and Scope

The series adopts an analytical and homiletic methodology centered on textual analysis of foundational Islamic sources. In each lecture, al-Munajjid presents the explicit wording of a narrative or prophetic hadith from classical compilations—such as Sahih al-Bukhari, Sahih Muslim, the Sunans of al-Tirmidhi and Abu Dawud, and the Musnad of Ahmad ibn Hanbal—and examines relevant transmission variants . The historical narrative is followed by a structured, point-by-point exposition of lessons, moral reflections, and practical rulings derived from the text .

Selected Contents

The series encompasses various historical and pedagogical themes, including:

  • Heraclius and Islam (Qissat Hiraql wa-al-Islam): A detailed commentary on the narration in Sahih al-Bukhari concerning the Prophet's ﷺ letter inviting Heraclius, the Byzantine emperor, to Islam . The lesson examines the dialogue between Heraclius and Abu Sufyan ibn Harb, analyzing how Heraclius deduced the veracity of Muhammad's ﷺ prophethood from his lineage, truthful reputation, the nature of his followers, and his moral commands, while also examining alternative narrations found in Ahmad's Musnad .
  • Al-Miqdad and the Goats (Qissat al-Miqdad wa-al-A'nuz): A study illustrating the financial hardships, patience, and dedication of the Prophet's Companions in seeking knowledge and striving in religious causes, concluding with itemized educational points .
  • A'ishah and the Baqi' Cemetery (Qissat 'A'ishah wa-Qabr al-Baqi'): A commentary on the hadith of 'A'ishah describing the Prophet's ﷺ visit to the Baqi' al-Gharqad graveyard, highlighting the purpose of cemetery visitation in softening the heart and recalling the afterlife, alongside the legal rulings governing graves and warnings against religious innovations .
  • Lessons from the Stories of the Prophets (Fawa'id min Qisas al-Anbiya'): An examination of the purpose of Quranic prophetic narratives as a source of steadfastness, comfort, and reflection for believers, centered on the divine statement: وَكُلًّا نَقُصُّ عَلَيْكَ مِنْ أَنْبَاءِ الرُّسُلِ مَا نُثَبِّتُ بِهِ فُؤَادَكَ ("And each [story] We relate to you from the news of the messengers is that by which We make firm your heart") .
