Sifat Rabb al-Alamin (The Attributes of the Lord of the Worlds) is a comprehensive theological and hadith work on the divine attributes by the Hanbali scholar Ibn al-Muhibb al-Samit (712–789 AH / 1312–1387 CE).

Scope and Content

The book is dedicated to establishing the attributes of God using traditional scriptural evidence according to the methodology of Ahl al-Sunnah. It compiles thousands of Quranic verses, prophetic hadiths with their full chains of transmission, and narrations from the Companions and early scholars. In addition to the divine attributes, the text covers related theological subjects, such as divine decree and predestination (al-qada wa-l-qadar), the beatific vision of God in the hereafter (ru'yat Allah), and the portents of the Hour.

The author organized the work into nine major parts (ajza'), which include individual thematic treatises such as Talkhis al-bayan fi ahadith asabi al-Rahman (Summary of the Exposition on the Narrations of the Fingers of the Merciful) in the fifth part.

Transmission and Academic Editions

The work is also referenced under alternate titles in bio-bibliographical sources, including Ithbat ahadith al-sifat and Kitab al-sifat by Ibn al-Mibrad (Yusuf ibn Hasan ibn Abd al-Hadi). The surviving manuscript preserved in Damascus is in the author's own handwriting as a working draft (musawwadah), containing transmission records (sama'at) entered by Ibn al-Mibrad.

Sections of the manuscript have been edited and studied across several academic master's theses submitted to the Department of Creed at Umm al-Qura University in Mecca, prepared by researchers including Saqr ibn Hasan al-Ghamidi, Fawwaz ibn Farhan al-Shammari, Umamah bint Muhammad al-Mahdi, In'am bint Abd al-Aziz al-Mansur, and Umaymah bint Isa al-Masmali.
