Shurut al-Dua wa Mawani al-Ijaba fi Daw al-Kitab wa al-Sunna (Conditions of Supplication and Impediments to Its Response in the Light of the Qur'an and Sunnah) is a treatise on the rules, manners, and obstacles of supplication by Saeed bin Ali bin Wahf al-Qahtani (d. 1440 AH / 2018 CE).

Composition and Purpose

The treatise was extracted and abridged from al-Qahtani's larger compendium al-Dhikr wa al-Dua wa al-Ilaj bi-l-Ruqa min al-Kitab wa al-Sunna (specifically from volume 4, pages 863–1117) around 1416 AH. The author isolated the sections concerning the manners, conditions, and hindrances of supplication and supplemented them with additional points of benefit needed by Muslims in their supplications.

Structure and Contents

The book is structured into an introduction and six core chapters:

  • Chapter 1: The concept of supplication and its types (Mafhum al-dua wa anwa'uh).
  • Chapter 2: The virtue of supplication (Fadl al-dua).
  • Chapter 3: The conditions of supplication and the impediments to its answer (Shurut al-dua wa mawani al-ijaba).
  • Chapter 4: The etiquettes of supplication, and the states and times when prayers are answered (Adab al-dua wa ahwal wa awqat al-ijaba).
  • Chapter 5: The prophets' devotion to supplication and God's response to them (Inayat al-anbiya bi-l-dua wa istijabat Allah lahum).
  • Chapter 6: The answered supplications (al-Da'awat al-mustajabat).

Publication

The first edition of the book appeared in 1416 AH (1995/1996 CE) and was distributed by Mu'assasat al-Juraysi in Riyadh, with another printing issued by Matba'at al-Safir in Riyadh.
