Sharh Zad al-Mustaqni - al-Shinqiti - al-Tafrig

Sharh Zad al-Mustaqni (Explanation of Zad al-Mustaqni) is an extensive contemporary Hanbali commentary delivered as an oral lecture series by Muhammad ibn Muhammad al-Mukhtar al-Shinqiti on Sharaf al-Din al-Hajjawi's (d. 960 AH / 1553 CE; also reported 968 AH) classical legal compendium Zad al-Mustaqni fi Ikhtisar al-Muqni.

Origins and Transcription

The commentary originated as spoken lectures delivered by al-Shinqiti at Masjid al-Tan'im in Mecca, which were recorded on audio cassettes and subsequently transcribed into digital and written texts by the Islamweb (al-Shabaka al-Islamiyya) portal. Because the original discourse was delivered extemporaneously, al-Shinqiti later began revising and rephrasing the transcribed lecture notes to produce an authorized written edition, adding further textual proofs and legal points while modifying aspects of the spoken wording. A print edition of the opening section, the Book of Purification (Kitab al-Taharah), was published under this revised form by the General Presidency of Scholarly Research and Ifta in Riyadh in 1428 AH (2007 CE).

Content and Method

The commentary systematically explicates the text of Zad al-Mustaqni', which is an authoritative summary of Muwaffaq al-Din Ibn Qudamah's (d. 620 AH / 1223 CE) al-Muqni restricted to the standard relied-upon positions of the Hanbali school. In his exposition, al-Shinqiti breaks down al-Hajjawi’s concise phrasing across individual chapters of substantive law—such as ritual purification, sales, sharecropping (musaqah), and other legal domains—clarifying the legal scenarios (taswir al-masa'il), detailing the scriptural evidence and juristic rationale behind the rulings, and outlining the causes of difference among jurists.
