Sharh Sahih al-Bukhari (Arabic: شرح صحيح البخاري) by the contemporary scholar Usama Sulayman is a commentary on the foundational hadith collection compiled by al-Bukhari (194–256 AH / 810–870 CE) .
Subject and Source Work
The commentary is dedicated to explaining the prophetic traditions contained in al-Bukhari's compendium, titled al-Jami' al-Sahih al-Musnad al-Mukhtasar min Umur Rasul Allah wa-Sunanihi wa-Ayyamihi (or al-Jami' al-Sahih al-Musnad min Hadith Rasul Allah wa-Sunanihi wa-Ayyamihi) . The base work is regarded across the scholarly community as the most authentic book after the Book of Allah (the Quran) and the preeminent collection among the six canonical books of Hadith . Al-Bukhari selected and compiled its narrations over a span of sixteen years from a pool of six hundred thousand hadiths, restricting the primary text to connected chains of transmission composed exclusively of upright and precise narrators .
Scope and Commentary Tradition
Sahih al-Bukhari is recognized as having generated more commentaries, glosses, and specialized studies than any other compiled work of hadith literature, with modern bibliographical surveys enumerating upwards of 375 distinct commentaries and marginal treatises devoted to it . Commentaries upon the collection systematically address its broad topical range—which encompasses legal rulings (ahkam), virtues (fada'il), historical and eschatological reports, etiquettes (adab), and heart-softening admonitions (raqa'iq)—while elucidating the legal and theological deductions embedded within al-Bukhari's chapter headings (tarajim) . Usama Sulayman's exposition forms part of this modern pedagogical tradition of delivering analytical lectures and lessons on the text and its derived rulings.
