Sahih Mawarid al-Zaman ila Zawaid Ibn Hibban (The Authentic Narrations of the Source for the Thirsty Concerning the Additions of Ibn Hibban) is a hadith work by the Albanian-Syrian scholar Nasir al-Din al-Albani (d. 1420 AH / 1999 CE) that isolates and authenticates the sound narrations from Nur al-Din al-Haythami's (d. 807 AH / 1404 CE) compilation of hadith additions (Mawarid al-Zaman ila Zawaid Ibn Hibban) .

Background and Purpose

The base text, Mawarid al-Zaman, was compiled by al-Haythami to gather the narrations found in Ibn Hibban's collection—originally titled al-Musnad al-Sahih 'ala al-Taqasim wa-al-Anwa'—that were not included in the two foundational works Sahih al-Bukhari and Sahih Muslim .

As part of his overarching initiative entitled Taqrib al-Sunnah bayna Yaday al-Ummah ("Bringing the Sunnah Closer to the Nation"), al-Albani critically evaluated the chains of transmission in al-Haythami's collection and divided it into two separate works: an authentic section, Sahih Mawarid al-Zaman, and a weak section, Da'if Mawarid al-Zaman .

Contents and Structure

Sahih Mawarid al-Zaman comprises two volumes containing 2,237 hadiths judged by al-Albani to be authentic or acceptable, while the remaining 348 narrations considered weak were placed into the companion volume Da'if Mawarid al-Zaman .

In addition to evaluating the narrations collected by al-Haythami, al-Albani appended a supplementary text titled al-Zawa'id 'ala al-Mawarid ("Additions to the Mawarid") . In this supplement, al-Albani extracted dozens of hadiths directly from Ibn Hibban's work (arranged under the title al-Ihsan) that met al-Haythami's criteria of being additions to the two Sahihs but had been inadvertently overlooked in the original Mawarid al-Zaman .

Publication

The work was published posthumously alongside Da'if Mawarid al-Zaman in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, by Dar al-Sumay'i in its first edition in 1422 AH / 2002 CE .
