Rawdat al-Mumti fi Takhrij Ahadith al-Rawd al-Murabba (The Pleasant Garden in the Extraction of the Hadiths of al-Rawd al-Murabba) is a multi-volume Hadith reference work authored by Khalid bin Dayf Allah al-Shalahi, dedicated to sourcing and evaluating the prophetic traditions and narrations cited in Mansur al-Buhuti’s Hanbali legal commentary al-Rawd al-Murabba .

Purpose and Scope

The work was composed to provide a medium-length hadith extraction (takhrīj) for al-Rawd al-Murabba—al-Buhuti's widely studied commentary on Musa al-Hajjawi's Zad al-Mustaqni—avoiding both excessive length and compromising brevity . It systematically documents the traditions cited in the legal manual, explores their transmission paths, and investigates the reliability of their narrators .

Methodology

Al-Shalahi structured his takhrīj around a seven-part methodology :

  1. Attributing each hadith to the original source compilations of the early author-scholars .
  2. Collecting and collating the transmission paths (ṭuruq) of the narration .
  3. Evaluating the biographical status of narrators (ruwāt), relying primarily on Ibn Hajar al-Asqalani's Taqrib al-Tahdhib .
  4. Analyzing chains of transmission (asānīd) and identifying hidden defects (ʿilal), sometimes prioritizing chain analysis if divergent routes constituted the primary defect .
  5. Gathering judgments on hadith authenticity, emphasizing early classical authorities (al-mutaqaddimūn) alongside later and contemporary scholars such as Abd al-Aziz ibn Baz and Muhammad Nasir al-Din al-Albani .
  6. Citing supporting narrations and corroborating witnesses (shawāhid) .
  7. Adding pertinent scholarly notes and benefits (fawāʾid wa-tanbīhāt) .

In determining authenticity, al-Shalahi adopted the method of Ali ibn Abi Bakr al-Haythami by evaluating the apparent chain (ẓāhir al-isnād) . He avoided declaring a hadith sound (ṣaḥīḥ) unless preceded by an authoritative classical scholar and supported by circumstantial indicators . For non-prophetic reports (āthār), particularly those transmitted in exegesis, he noted the frequency of mursal narrations in sources like the Musannaf works of Abd al-Razzaq al-San'ani and Ibn Abi Shaybah .

Sources

In compiling the work, the author made extensive use of prior takhrīj literature and comprehensive reference collections :

  • Supplements to Irwa al-Ghalil, including al-Takmil lima Fata Takhrijuhu min Irwa al-Ghalil by Salih Al al-Shaykh and al-Tahjil fi Takhrij ma Lam Yukhraj fi Irwa al-Ghalil by Abd al-Aziz al-Tarifi .
  • Prior takhrīj attempts on al-Rawd al-Murabba, including the collaborative effort involving Khalid al-Mushayqih, and al-Qawl al-Mumti fi Takhrij Ahadith al-Rawd al-Murabba by Sa'id al-Ghamidi .
  • Hadith compendia such as Jami' al-Usul by Ibn al-Athir, Jami' al-Masanid, and al-Musnad al-Jami' .

In the introduction, the author stated a general bequest granting open permission to all Muslims, publishers, and charitable organizations to print, abridge, critique, or distribute the book and his other writings .
