Qadat al-Gharb Yaqulun Dammiru al-Islam Abidu Ahlahu (Leaders of the West Say: Destroy Islam, Annihilate Its People) is an Islamic political booklet by the Syrian writer and historian Abd al-Wadud Yusuf (1938–1983 CE), published under the pseudonym Jalal al-Alam.
Authorship and Purpose
The book was completed in Tripoli on 15 August 1974 CE. It was authored as a call directed at Muslim rulers and peoples to awaken them to the dangers facing the Muslim world and to present Islam as the sole source of genuine strength, revival, and unity in confronting foreign hegemony.
The author published the work under the pen name Jalal al-Alam during a period of severe ideological and political polarization in the Arab world, when Islamic civilizational thought was routinely dismissed by prevailing nationalist and leftist currents.
Content and Themes
The booklet examines the strategies and hostile policies pursued against the Muslim world by compiling and analyzing historical statements and documented actions of Western leaders, orientalists, and colonial officials. Among its primary historical and contemporary topics are:
- Historical hostility and the Crusades: Highlighting ideological continuity from the medieval Crusades to modern military and cultural incursions into Islamic lands.
- The fall of al-Andalus: Documenting the persecution, forced conversions, and the tortures of the Spanish Inquisition following the fall of Granada in 1492 CE, including accounts recorded during the Napoleonic campaigns.
- Colonialism and ideological warfare: Analyzing methods used to divide Muslim lands and suppress Islamic governance and culture.
- Zionist policies in Palestine: Detailing organized efforts in the occupied West Bank aimed at moral disruption and weakening the youth's attachment to resistance.
Publication History
The work was widely disseminated across the Arab world in numerous editions:
- A second edition published by the author in Tripoli in 1395 AH / 1975 CE, spanning 64 pages, as well as a second edition printed in Beirut.
- An edition published by Dar al-Arqam in Amman in 1983 CE.
- An edition printed by Maktabat Ibn Taymiyyah in Cairo.
