Nur al-Huda wa Zulumat al-Dalal fi Daw al-Kitab wa al-Sunna (The Light of Guidance and the Darknesses of Misguidance in Light of the Book and the Sunnah) is an Islamic treatise by Saeed bin Wahf al-Qahtani (d. 1440 AH / 2018 CE) examining the concepts of spiritual light and darkness through textual evidence from the Quran and the Prophetic Sunnah.

Composition and Purpose

The treatise was completed by the author on Wednesday, 28 Shawwal 1419 AH. Its stated objective is to summarize the core aspects of spiritual guidance—namely Islam, faith (iman), monotheism (tawhid), sincerity (ikhlas), adherence to the Sunnah, and piety (taqwa)—while contrasting them with their corresponding spiritual darknesses: disbelief (kufr), polytheism (shirk), hypocrisy (nifaq), seeking worldly gain through deeds meant for the hereafter, religious innovation (bid'ah), and acts of disobedience (ma'asi), substantiating each theme with textual proofs from the Quran and the Sunnah.

Structure and Content

The author organized the book into seven main chapters (mabahith), each subdivided into points (matalib) and subsections (masalik):

  1. Light and Darkness in the Book and the Sunnah (al-Nur wa-al-Zulumat fi al-Kitab wa-al-Sunna)
  2. The Light of Monotheism and the Darkness of Polytheism (Nur al-Tawhid wa-Zulumat al-Shirk)
  3. The Light of Sincerity and the Darkness of Seeking Worldly Gain Through Deeds of the Hereafter (Nur al-Ikhlas wa-Zulumat Iradat al-Dunya bi-'Amal al-Akhira)
  4. The Light of Islam and the Darkness of Disbelief (Nur al-Islam wa-Zulumat al-Kufr)
  5. The Light of Faith and the Darkness of Hypocrisy (Nur al-Iman wa-Zulumat al-Nifaq)
  6. The Light of the Sunnah and the Darkness of Innovation (Nur al-Sunnah wa-Zulumat al-Bid'ah)
