Musnad Uthman ibn Affan li Abi al-Qasim al-Baghawi (The Musnad of Uthman ibn Affan by Abu al-Qasim al-Baghawi) is a hadith treatise compiling narrations attributed to the third Caliph, Uthman ibn Affan (d. 35 AH / 656 CE), compiled by the traditionist Abu al-Qasim al-Baghawi (d. 317 AH / 929–930 CE).

Transmission and Scholarly Reception

The work records hadiths through chains of transmission (isnad) going back to Uthman ibn Affan. Scholarly bibliographical transmission chains preserve its line of narration through figures including Abdullah ibn Muhammad ibn Janabah, Ahmad ibn Uthman al-Makhbari, and Muhammad ibn Abd al-Baqi al-Ansari down to later transmitters.

Later traditionists cited narrations from Baghawi's compilation. Diya' al-Din al-Maqdisi included reports from it in al-Ahadith al-mukhtara, and Jalal al-Din al-Suyuti referenced it in his hadith compilations. In commentary on these citations, scholars such as Abd al-Ra'uf al-Munawi in Fayd al-qadir noted critical evaluations transmitted within the work, such as Baghawi identifying certain chains as having unknown narrators (majhul al-isnad).

Publication

The text was edited by Khalaf Mahmud Abd al-Samia and published by Dar al-Kutub al-Ilmiyyah in Beirut (1423 AH / 2002 CE), issued within a compilation titled al-Fawa'id li-Ibn Mandah.
