Musnad al-Muqillin min al-Umara wa al-Salatin (The Hadith Collection of Rulers and Sultans with Few Transmissions) is a hadith tract compiled by the Damascene traditionist Abu al-Qasim Tamam ibn Muhammad al-Razi al-Dimashqi (d. 414 AH / 1023 CE; also cited as d. 413 AH) . It gathers prophetic narrations transmitted through political rulers, governors, and ministers who possessed few reported traditions in the canonical corpus .

Scope and Content

The work belongs to the specialized musnad subgenre that categorizes narrations according to particular groups of transmitters rather than standard legal chapters. In this collection, the author isolates chains of transmission featuring ruling authorities and state figures who rarely narrated hadith .

Among the narrations included are:

  • A transmission related through the Umayyad governor al-Hajjaj ibn Yusuf on the authority of the Companion Samura ibn Jundab, stating: الأذنان من الرأس ("The ears are part of the head") .
  • A narration transmitted through the Abbasid vizier al-Fadl ibn al-Rabi', from Humayd al-Tawil, from Anas ibn Malik, containing the supplication: اللهم بارك لأمتي في بكورها ("O Allah, bless my community in their early morning pursuits") .

Transmission and Manuscripts

The transmission of the treatise was recorded by later bibliographers through a continuous chain connecting Abu al-Hajjaj Yusuf ibn Khalil al-Dimashqi to Abu Tahir Barakat ibn Ibrahim al-Khushū‘i, from Hibat Allah ibn Muhammad al-Akfani, from Abd Allah ibn Umar al-Kinani, directly from the author .

Manuscript copies of the treatise have survived in Islamic library collections, including:

  • Al-Zahiriyya Library in Damascus (Majmu' 66, fols. 37–43) .
  • Dar al-Kutub al-Misriyya in Cairo (Hadith no. 1558) .

Editions

The text has been published in modern editions:

  • An edition edited by Subhi Jasim al-Samarra'i, published by al-Dar al-Salafiyya in Kuwait .
  • An edition edited by Majdi Fathi al-Sayyid, published by Dar al-Sahabah li-l-Turath in Tanta, Egypt (first edition 1410 AH / 1989 CE) .
