Musannafat Tirad al-Zaynabi wa Ajza Ukhra (The Works of Tirad al-Zaynabi and Other Hadith Booklets) is a collective compendium of early and medieval hadith treatises centered on the transmissions of Abu al-Fawaris Tirad ibn Muhammad al-Zaynabi (398–491 AH / 1008–1098 CE), edited by Nabil Sa'd al-Din Jarrar .

Overview and Structure

The volume forms the eighth entry in the series Majami' al-Ajza' al-Hadithiyyah and was published by Arwiqah lil-Dirasat wa-al-Nashr in 1440 AH / 2019 CE . It brings together surviving hadith transmissions and dictation sessions (amali) of the Abbasid nobleman and hadith authority Abu al-Fawaris Tirad al-Zaynabi alongside ten other independent hadith collections (ajza') by various classical traditionists .

Transmissions of Tirad al-Zaynabi

Tirad al-Zaynabi's corpus in the volume consists primarily of dictation gatherings compiled or extracted from his original audition registers, several of which were organized by the Baghdadi traditionist Abu 'Ali al-Bardani . The preserved texts edited in the collection comprise:

  • Tis'at Majalis min Amali Tirad al-Zaynabi (nine dictation sessions extracted by al-Bardani) .
  • Majlis al-Rawdah, a dictation delivered in Medina between the Prophet's grave and pulpit .
  • Majlisan min Amali Tirad (two dictation sessions) and individual standalone session notebooks (majlis) .

Other works historically attributed to or extracted for Tirad—such as his twenty-five sessions dictated at the Jami' al-Mansur in Baghdad and his Fada'il al-Sahabah—were not traced among available manuscripts by the editor .

Additional Hadith Treatises

Following the section on Tirad al-Zaynabi, the compilation contains ten short hadith booklets :

  1. Juz' Ibn Faris
  2. Juz' al-Saqati
  3. Juz' Ibn Nujayd
  4. Juz' Ibn Tharthal
  5. Min Hadith Abi Ishaq al-Habbal
  6. Ahadith Mansur ibn 'Ammar, compiled by Abu Bakr al-Dhakwani
  7. Majlis Ibn Hazar-mard al-Sarifini
  8. Juz' al-Manadili
  9. Ahadith al-Manadili
  10. Khamsat Ahadith li-Ibn al-'Arabi (five hadiths transmitted by Abu Bakr ibn al-'Arabi al-Muta'akhkhir from his teachers)

Editorial Method

In preparing the edition, the editor focused on verifying the text against primary manuscript copies, rectifying scribal errors and corruptions, and marking additions from secondary manuscript witnesses in square brackets . Hadith documentation (takhrij) was restricted to referencing Sahih al-Bukhari and Sahih Muslim (or either of them) when present, or citing standard published hadith reference works without excessive citation lists . The preface was finalized in Amman, Jordan, in Rabi' al-Thani 1438 AH .
