Muntaqa min Hadith Abi Bakr al-Anbari (A Selection from the Hadith of Abu Bakr al-Anbari) is a specialized hadith collection (juz'), compiling narrations transmitted on the authority of the Baghdadi hadith scholar Abu Bakr Muhammad ibn Ja'far ibn Muhammad ibn al-Haytham al-Anbari, known as al-Bandar and Ibn Abi Ahmad (d. 360 AH / 971 CE) .
Origin and Scope
The narrations of Abu Bakr al-Anbari al-Bandar originally circulated in two substantial volumes compiled through the selection of 'Umar al-Basri . From these two larger parts, a concise juz' was selected (muntaqa) to preserve prominent and high-standard chains of transmission (isnad) originating from him .
Transmission
The primary line of transmission for this selection runs through the hadith master Abu Bakr Ahmad ibn Muhammad al-Barqani from Abu Bakr al-Anbari . Al-Barqani transmitted the material to Abu Ghalib Muhammad ibn al-Hasan ibn Ahmad al-Karkhi al-Baqqal (also vocalized as al-Baqillani) in 499 AH .
From Abu Ghalib, the work was preserved and disseminated along multiple paths, including:
- A transmission through Abu al-Husayn 'Abd al-Haqq ibn 'Abd al-Khaliq ibn Yusuf .
- A transmission through Abu 'Ali al-Hasan ibn Ja'far ibn al-Mutawakkil to 'Abd Allah ibn 'Umar ibn al-Latti, through whom later scholars, such as Salah al-Din al-'Ala'i, received the work in Damascus and Jerusalem .
Within the text, Abu Bakr al-Anbari relates prophetic hadiths and reports primarily through teachers such as Ja'far ibn Muhammad ibn Shakir al-Sa'igh and Muhammad ibn Abi al-'Awwam .
Manuscript Preservation
Manuscript copies of the selection are preserved in the 'Umariyya collections of the Zahiriyya Library in Damascus (under Majmu' 75 / General 3811, fols. 157–167) .
