Muntaqa min al-Ishrin juzan al-Muntakhaba (Arabic: منتقى من العشرين جزءا المنتخبة), commonly known as al-Khulaiyat (الخلعيات), is a twenty-part hadith collection compiled from the narrations of the Egyptian Shafi'i jurist and hadith master Abu al-Hasan Ali ibn al-Hasan al-Khula'i (d. 492 AH / 1099 CE).

Compilation and Content

The collection, formally titled in manuscript transmissions as al-Fawa'id al-muntaqah al-hisan min al-sihah wa-al-ghara'ib (Selected Fine Benefits from Authentic and Rare Reports), was selected and arranged (takhrij) for al-Khula'i by Abu Nasr Ahmad ibn al-Hasan al-Shirazi. It comprises twenty thematic hadith booklets (ajza') drawn from al-Khula'i's auditions from his teachers, notably Abu Muhammad Abd al-Rahman ibn Umar ibn al-Nahhas. In addition to prophetic hadiths with their full chains of transmission, the work incorporates scholarly anecdotes, historical reports (athar), and poetic verses.

Transmission and Standing

The primary transmitter of the collection from al-Khula'i was his devoted student Abu Muhammad Abd Allah ibn Rifa'ah al-Sa'di (d. 561 AH), who preserved and taught the twenty parts. Subsequent chains of transmission passed through figures such as Muhammad ibn Imad al-Harrani, Abu Sadiq al-Hasan ibn Yahya ibn Sabah al-Makhzumi, and Taj al-Din Ali ibn Ahmad al-Gharrafi.

Al-Khulaiyat was widely sought after by later hadith scholars due to the brevity and elevation of its chains (uluww al-isnad). The hadith scholar Salah al-Din al-Ala'i characterized these twenty parts as being abundant in scholarly benefits and containing the most elevated chains narrated from the traditionists of Egypt.
