Muntaqa al-Adhkar

Muntaqa al-Adhkar: Hisn fi al-Dunya wa-Ajr fi al-Akhirah (The Selection of Remembrances: A Fortress in This World and a Reward in the Hereafter) is a handbook of prophetic supplications and remembrances (adhkar) compiled by the contemporary Saudi scholar خالد الجريسي (Khalid ibn Abd al-Rahman al-Juraysi) . It was published as the first installment in his series Zad al-Mu'min (Provision of the Believer) .

Purpose and Methodology

Al-Juraysi compiled the treatise as a concise selection of authentic prophetic invocations rather than an exhaustive compendium, intending to provide a manageable spiritual provision that would be accessible and easy for readers to practice regularly . In arranging its topical structure, he drew inspiration from يحيى بن شرف النووي's (al-Nawawi) classic compilation الأذكار (al-Adhkar) .

The author applied specific methodological parameters throughout the work:

  • Limiting the contents strictly to transmissions assessed as authentic (sahih) or good (hasan) .
  • Providing precise vocalization (dabt) of the transmitted texts in the body .
  • Placing the hadith documentation (takhrij) at the end of the sections so that readers could focus directly on memorizing and reciting the texts .

An audio recording of the invocations in the text was also prepared alongside the book to facilitate memorization and practical application .

Structure and Contents

Following an introduction outlining its objectives, the book is organized into six thematic chapters :

  1. The Chosen Manner of Invoking Blessings upon the Prophet ﷺ (Fi Dhikr al-Sifah al-Mukhtarah lil-Salat wa-l-Salam 'ala Rasul Allah): Transmitting the formulas and virtues of invoking blessings and peace upon the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ .
  2. Etiquettes of Remembrance and Supplication (Fi Bayan Ba'd Adab al-Dhikr wa-l-Du'a'): Explaining essential inner and outer conduct for remembrance and supplication, including sincerity, attentiveness, and cleanliness .
  3. Prescribed Invocations for Specific Occasions (Fi Adhkar Mashru'ah fi Ahwal wa-Munasabat): Supplications associated with various life circumstances and events, such as the prayer of seeking guidance (istikhara) .
  4. Daily Invocations for Day and Night (Fi Adhkar Khassah bi-l-Yawm wa-l-Laylah): Morning, evening, and nocturnal remembrances .
  5. Invocations Specific to Acts of Worship (Fi Adhkar Makhsusah bi-l-'Ibadat): Remembrances related to ritual prayer and its prerequisites, zakat, fasting, and the rites of Hajj and Umrah .
  6. Unrestricted Invocations (Fi Adhkar Ghayr Muqayyadah bi-Awqat aw Munasabat): General formulas of praise, glorification, and remembrance not tied to specific times or circumstances .

Reception

The work received a written endorsement and foreword from the Saudi scholar عبد الله بن عبد الرحمن الجبرين (Abdullah ibn Abd al-Rahman ibn Jibreen), dated 2 Ramadan 1421 AH (2000 CE) . Ibn Jibreen commended the compiler's selection, his restriction to sound transmissions (sahih and hasan), his highlighting of the rewards attached to the remembrances, and his inclusion of hadith sourcing and grading .
