Muntakhab min Hadith Yunus ibn Ubayd (Selection from the Hadith of Yunus ibn Ubayd) is a hadith treatise compiled by the hadith scholar Abu Nuaym al-Asbahani (d. 430 AH / 1038 CE), selecting narrations transmitted on the authority of the Basran traditionist Yunus ibn Ubayd .

Contents and Method

The work contains 94 numbered reports narrated with Abu Nuaym's own chains of transmission back to Yunus ibn Ubayd . The narrations are primarily drawn through Yunus's transmission from early authorities, notably al-Hasan al-Basri, Muhammad ibn Sirin, Humayd ibn Hilal, Thabit al-Bunani, Amr ibn Said, and Nafi .

Abu Nuaym frequently incorporates critical commentary on the transmission paths, noting instances of isolated transmission (tafarrud), discrepancies among transmitters (ikhtilaf), and variant attributions in the chains of narration .

Transmission and Manuscript

The surviving transmission of the text is preserved through Abu Ali al-Hasan ibn Ahmad ibn al-Hasan al-Haddad al-Muqri from Abu Nuaym, and from him by Khalil ibn Abi al-Raja al-Darani al-Sufi . The Damascene hadith scholar Yusuf ibn Khalil al-Dimashqi read the text upon al-Darani at his home in Isfahan in Jumada al-Ula 592 AH .

A manuscript copy of the treatise is preserved in the Zahiriyya Library in Damascus within the Majami Umariyya collection (Majmu 103, treatise no. 10, folios 138–152) .
