Min Majalis Abi Sa'id al-Naqqash Riwayat Abi Muti' al-Sahhaf (From the Dictation Sessions of Abu Sa'id al-Naqqash, Transmission of Abu Muti' al-Sahhaf) is a hadith booklet (juz') dictated by the Isfahan-based traditionist Abu Sa'id al-Naqqash (d. 414 AH / 1023 CE) and preserved through the transmission of his student Abu Muti' al-Sahhaf (d. 497 AH / 1103–1104 CE) .
Transmission and Reception
The text originated from the dictation sessions (amali) delivered by Abu Sa'id Muhammad ibn 'Ali ibn 'Amr al-Naqqash in Isfahan . It was received and recorded by his long-lived student, the bookbinder and transmitter Abu Muti' Muhammad ibn 'Abd al-Wahid al-Sahhaf al-Madini, known as al-Misri .
The primary transmission chain preserved in the manuscript documents that Abu Tahir al-Silafi studied the text under Abu Muti' by reading it to him in 493 AH at the Jami' al-'Atiq (the Old Mosque) in Isfahan . Later, Abu Muhammad 'Abd al-Wahhab ibn Zafir al-Qurashi heard the work directly from al-Silafi in Alexandria in Rajab 574 AH . The manuscript also carries an audition note for Muhammad ibn 'Abd Allah ibn 'Abd al-Ghani al-Maqdisi .
Later bibliographers and traditionists recorded receiving sessions of al-Naqqash's dictations through Abu Muti' and al-Silafi, including Salah al-Din al-Ala'i and Ibn Hajar al-Asqalani, who listed parts containing two and six sessions transmitted via this line .
Content and Preservation
The booklet consists of prophetic hadiths recorded with full chains of transmission (asānīd) reported by al-Naqqash from various teachers across the Islamic world, including scholars in Nishapur, Baghdad, and Merv .
