Min Hadith Ibn al-Muqri (From the Hadith of Ibn al-Muqri) is a hadith booklet (juz') preserving narrations transmitted by the Isfahan hadith scholar and hafiz Ibn al-Muqri (285–381 AH / 898–991 CE) .
Author and Context
The author was Abu Bakr Muhammad ibn Ibrahim ibn Ali ibn Asim ibn Zadhan al-Asbahani al-Asimi, widely known as Ibn al-Muqri . He was an itinerant scholar who traveled widely across Iraq, the Hijaz, the Levant, Egypt, and the Jazira region to gather hadith . He narrated from prominent authorities such as Abu Ya'la al-Mawsili, al-Baghawi, Abu Arubah al-Harrani, and Abdan al-Ahwazi, and his transmissions were preserved by disciples including Abu Nu'aym al-Isfahani and Ibn Mardawayh . He died in Shawwal 381 AH at nearly one hundred years of age .
Content and Transmission
The work consists of hadith transmissions with their chains of narration (isnad) tracing back to the Prophet ﷺ through Ibn al-Muqri . Later hadith scholars cited and transmitted the booklet; the traditionist Abu Tahir al-Silafi referenced transmissions from Ibn al-Muqri's hadith in his Mashyakha, recording three elevated prophetic reports from it . The work was formally cataloged by Ibn Hajar al-Asqalani under the title Juz'un fihi min Hadith Ibn al-Muqri in his transmission records .
Manuscripts and Publications
A manuscript copy is preserved in the Zahiriyyah Library in Damascus as part of the Umariyyah compilation (Majmu' no. 87), bearing the title Muntakhab min Hadith Ibn al-Muqri (Selection from the Hadith of Ibn al-Muqri) . Another manuscript of this selection indicates that its contents were extracted from Ibn al-Muqri's work on rare transmissions of Malik ibn Anas (Ghara'ib Malik) . The text has been edited and published, and it appears in anthologies of rare hadith booklets such as Jamharat al-Ajza' al-Hadithiyyah .
