Min Hadith Abd al-Samad al-Tusti

Min Hadith Abd al-Samad al-Tusti (From the Hadith of Abd al-Samad al-Tusti) is a hadith tract (juz') preserving the narrations of the Baghdad-based hadith transmitter and legal agent (al-wakil) Abu al-Husayn Abd al-Samad ibn Ali al-Tusti (266–346 AH / 880–957 CE) .

Author and Content

The text comprises hadith narrations transmitted by Abu al-Husayn Abd al-Samad ibn Ali ibn Muhammad ibn Mukram al-Tusti . Al-Tusti was an authority in hadith transmission (musnid) from Baghdad who lived for eighty years and died in Sha'ban 346 AH . His narrations were compiled in hadith notebooks (ajza'), representing selections from his transmissions and gatherings .

Transmission and Reception

Shams al-Din al-Dhahabi noted that al-Tusti had two distinct hadith parts preserved in transmission through the prominent scholar Abu Tahir al-Silafi, one of which reached al-Dhahabi through an unbroken, continuous chain of transmission (bi-l-ittisal) .

The documented line of transmission recorded on the preserved text of this juz' traces back directly to al-Tusti through his student Abu Ali al-Hasan ibn Ahmad ibn Shadhan . From Ibn Shadhan, it was transmitted by Abu Bakr Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn Zangawayh al-Zanjani, from whom it was narrated by the hafiz Abu Tahir Ahmad ibn Muhammad al-Silafi al-Isfahani . The work also carries an audition record (sama') for the hadith master Abd al-Ghani al-Maqdisi .
