Miftah al-Afkar lil-Taahhub li-Dar al-Qarar (The Key of Thoughts for Preparation for the Abode of Permanence) is a multi-volume Arabic compendium of Islamic sermons, admonitions, legal rulings, and moral guidance compiled by the Saudi scholar and educator Abd al-Aziz al-Salman (d. 1422 AH / 2001 CE) .

Background and Purpose

The book was the final work written by al-Salman before his death . According to his son Abd al-Hamid, when al-Salman authored the text in his final days, he stated that he intended through it to prepare himself for entering the "Abode of Permanence" (the afterlife), and he did not compose any subsequent books .

In the introduction, al-Salman stated that his objective was to assemble a comprehensive collection of exhortations, counsel, speeches, maxims, legal rulings, principles, etiquettes, and virtues drawn from the Quran, the Sunnah, and the sayings of early and later scholars . He designed the compilation to serve as a self-sufficient resource for preachers, Friday orators (khutaba), and religious guides .

Contents and Structure

The full descriptive title of the work designates it as a collection of sermons, maxims, legal rulings, principles, admonitions, manners, and noble character traits (Khutab wa-hikam wa-ahkam wa-qawa'id wa-mawa'iz wa-adab wa-akhlaq hisan) . It incorporates thematic sections (fusul) addressing spiritual awareness, the valuation of time, reminders of mortality, and ethical conduct, interspersed with didactic poetry, including the Mimiya poem of Ibn Qayyim al-Jawziyya .

Publication

In accordance with al-Salman's general practice of dedicating his writings as charitable endowments (waqf) rather than commercial publications, the author explicitly designated the book for non-commercial printing and distribution as an endowment for God's sake .
