Mazid Fath al-Bari bi Sharh al-Bukhari (Arabic: مزيد فتح الباري بشرح البخاري, "The Addition to Fath al-Bari in Explaining al-Bukhari"), also referred to as Sharh al-Nu'mani, is an incomplete commentary on Sahih al-Bukhari authored by the Egyptian Shafi'i jurist Ibrahim ibn Ali al-Nu'mani (828–898 AH / 1425–1492 CE) .

Method and Sources

The work was conceived as a synthesis combining the material of two major commentaries on Sahih al-Bukhari: Fath al-Bari by Ibn Hajar al-Asqalani and Umdat al-Qari by Badr al-Din al-Ayni . Alongside merging the insights of these two treatises, al-Nu'mani incorporated the substance of Ibn Hajar's Intiqad al-I'tirad, a specialized rebuttal addressing al-Ayni's objections to Fath al-Bari .

Scope and Extent

Al-Nu'mani composed a substantial portion of the commentary but did not bring it to completion . According to Haji Khalifa in Kashf al-Zunun, the text breaks off mid-way through the Book of Prayer (Kitab al-Salat), noting that the author did not fulfill the complete scope of his planned compilation .
