Mawsuat Fiqh al-Qulub (Encyclopedia of the Jurisprudence of Hearts) is a multi-volume Islamic treatise on creed, spirituality, and inner deeds authored by Muhammad bin Ibrahim al-Tuwayjiri . Published in four volumes, it expounds upon the actions and conditions of the heart alongside the broader fundamentals of Islamic faith and practice .

Purpose and Scope

Al-Tuwayjiri composed the work to present the core fundamentals of faith (usul al-din) and the overarching objectives of Islamic law (maqasid al-shari'ah) as articulated by the early righteous generations (al-salaf al-salih) . The work focuses on purifying the heart, explaining spiritual virtues and afflictions, and fostering inner devotion and ethical conduct alongside outward religious duties .

Structure

The encyclopedia is organized into fifteen major thematic chapters (abwab):

  1. Fiqh Asma' Allah wa Sifatih (Understanding Allah's Names and Attributes)

Methodology and Sources

The author grounds the text in the Quran and prophetic hadith, adhering to a strict condition of including only authentic (sahih) or sound (hasan) narrations and omitting weak (da'if), fabricated (mawdu'), uncorroborated (shadhdh), or baseless reports . The text incorporates rational arguments and tangible examples alongside textual proofs .

Rather than listing divergent scholarly opinions or attributing every excerpt individually—which the author noted would be cumbersome due to extensive synthesis, editing, and harmonization—he synthesized the sayings of classical scholars into unified thematic expositions .

Publication

The encyclopedia was completed by the author in Buraidah, Saudi Arabia, and published in four volumes by Bayt al-Afkar al-Dawliyya in Jordan .
