Mawaiz Ibn al-Jawzi - al-Yaquta (also known as al-Yaqutah fi al-Waz or Yaqutat al-Mawaiz) is a homiletical work on Islamic preaching and admonition (waz) by the Hanbali scholar and preacher Ibn al-Jawzi (d. 597 AH / 1201 CE) .
Scope and Structure
The work consists of homiletic discourses and chapters on preaching, composed to serve as an exemplar and structural model for preachers to emulate and pattern their sermons after . Bibliographical and biographical sources list it under variant forms of its title, including al-Yaquta, al-Yaqutah fi al-Waz, Yaqutat al-Mawaiz, and Yaqutat al-Waiz wa-al-Mawizah . In the classification of Ibn al-Jawzi's homiletic writings, his grandson Sibt Ibn al-Jawzi counted al-Yaquta as a single section (juz) among more than sixty preaching titles compiled by the author , whereas other biographical accounts record it as consisting of two parts (juzan) .
