Masmuat Abi Muhammad Rizq Allah al-Tamimi (The Auditions of Abu Muhammad Rizq Allah al-Tamimi) is a hadith tract (juzʾ) compiling prophetic traditions and narrations transmitted by the Baghdadi Hanbali jurist and preacher Abu Muhammad Rizq Allah ibn Abd al-Wahhab al-Tamimi (d. 488 AH / 1095 CE) .
Contents and Scope
The collection gathers narrations that al-Tamimi received through direct hearing or reading with his teachers in Baghdad . The text opens with the divine tradition (hadith qudsi) concerning the sanctity of God's allies: من عادى لي وليا فقد آذنته بالحرب ("Whoever shows enmity to an ally of Mine, I have declared war upon him") .
The tract contains traditions addressing various ritual, theological, and ethical subjects, including:
- Virtues of night vigil on Laylat al-Qadr, the solar eclipse prayer, and trials in the grave .
- The merits of congregational attendance at the dawn (fajr) and night (ʿishaʾ) prayers, as well as waking one's family for night prayer .
- Hastening the funeral procession, and illness as an expiation of sins .
- Divine predetermination (qadar) and the forgiveness granted to whoever calls the adhan or leads the five daily prayers .
- Paths to salvation through guarding the tongue, staying in one's home, and weeping over sins, alongside formulas of morning and evening remembrance .
- The believers gazing upon God in Paradise, the virtue of giving charity while in good health, Abu al-Dahdah's loaning of his palm orchard to God, and prophetic intercession (shafaʿah) for sinners .
- Loving and seeking forgiveness for all the Prophet's Companions, and looking to those with less in wealth and creation .
In addition to prophetic hadiths, the tract concludes with non-prophetic reports (athar), wisdom sayings attributed to Luqman, an anecdote on worshippers among the Israelites, poetry discouraging answering insults, and a supplication for seeking forgiveness related on the authority of Ibn al-Aʿrabi .
Transmission and Sources
Al-Tamimi relates the material through several prominent authorities, including:
- Abu Umar Abd al-Wahid ibn Muhammad ibn Abd Allah ibn Mahdi al-Farisi (transmitting from Muhammad ibn Makhlad al-Attar) .
- Abu al-Husayn Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn Ahmad, known as Ibn al-Mutayyam al-Waʿiz (transmitting from Abu Bakr Yusuf ibn Yaʿqub ibn al-Bahlul and al-Husayn ibn Isma'il al-Mahamili) .
- Abu Abd Allah Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn Yusuf ibn Dust al-ʿAllaf (transmitting via al-Husayn ibn Safwan al-Bardhaʿi from Ibn Abi al-Dunya) .
- Abu al-Husayn Muhammad ibn al-Husayn ibn al-Fadl al-Qattan and Abu al-Hasan Muhammad ibn Muhammad ibn Makhlad al-Bazzaz (both transmitting from Ismaʿil ibn Muhammad al-Saffar from al-Hasan ibn ʿArafah) .
- Abu al-Faraj Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn Umar ibn al-Hasan ibn al-Maslamah (transmitting from Abu Bakr Ahmad ibn Kamil ibn Khalaf al-Qadi and Abu Saʿid al-Hasan ibn Abd Allah al-Sirafi) .
