Mashyakhat al-Suhrawardi (Mashyakhat Shihāb al-Dīn Abī Ḥafṣ ‘Umar ibn Muḥammad al-Suhrawardī) is a collection of hadith transmissions and shaykh records belonging to the Shafi'i jurist and Sufi master Abu Hafs 'Umar al-Suhrawardi (539–632 AH / 1145–1234 CE), compiled and extracted (takhrīj) by al-Ḥasan ibn Muḥammad ibn al-Ḥasan ibn Abī Jarwayh al-Shaybānī al-Mawṣilī .

Content and Nature

The work is categorized as a concise hadith booklet (juzʾ laṭīf) documenting al-Suhrawardi’s direct teachers (mashāyikh) and the traditions he narrated on their authority . Biographers and bibliographers, including Ibn Kathir, Ibn al-Mulaqqin, and Muhammad ibn Ja'far al-Kattani in al-Risala al-Mustatrafa, list it among the established hadith mashyakhas of the period .

Transmission and Reception

The text was read directly to al-Suhrawardi in Baghdad in the year 620 AH . Among those who attended this audition was Shihāb al-Dīn Abū al-Ma‘ālī Ahmad ibn Ishaq al-Abarquhi, who later transmitted it to Qadi ‘Imād al-Dīn Abū al-Faḍl Muḥammad ibn Aḥmad al-Shīrāzī during an audition at the Mosque of Ibn Tulun in Cairo on Sunday, two days before the end of Jumada al-Ula in 699 AH . It was also transmitted through general authorizations (ijāza), including chains reaching the hadith scholar Salah al-Din al-'Ala'i and the transmitter Sirāj al-Dīn al-Qazwīnī .

Manuscript and Publication

A manuscript of the Mashyakha bearing the audition note from the year 620 AH is preserved in the Chester Beatty Library (MS 3495) . The text was edited by ‘Āmir Ḥasan Ṣabrī and published by Mu’assasat al-Rayyān in Beirut (1425 AH / 2004 CE) within a three-part compendium of hadith mashyakhas alongside the works of Ibn Maslama al-Umawī and Ibn al-Lattī .
