Mashaykhat Ibn al-Hattab Abi Abd Allah al-Razi wa Thabat Masmuatihi (The Teacher Dictionary and Record of Auditions of Ibn al-Hattab Abu Abd Allah al-Razi) is a work documenting the teachers and transmissions of the Egyptian Shafi'i traditionist Abu Abd Allah Muhammad ibn Ahmad ibn Ibrahim al-Razi, known as Ibn al-Hattab (d. 525 AH / 1130 CE) . The compilation was selected and arranged from his audition records by the hadith master Abu Tahir al-Silafi (d. 576 AH / 1180 CE) .

Compilation and Content

The collection was assembled by Abu Tahir al-Silafi, who completed his selection from Ibn al-Hattab's transmissions in Alexandria in the year 512 AH . It comprises biographical notices and narrated reports from 46 of Ibn al-Hattab's teachers from whom he studied hadith and the Quran, encompassing resident scholars of Egypt as well as visiting scholars who entered the region .

Among the teachers recorded in the work is Ibn al-Hattab's father, Abu al-Abbas Ahmad ibn Ibrahim al-Razi (d. 491 AH in Alexandria), who had granted his son a comprehensive authorization (ijaza) for all of his transmissions and auditions .

Reception and Publication

The work served as an authoritative reference for hadith chains transmitted through Egyptian networks and was cited by later traditionists, including Ibn Kathir in his sources for Musnad al-Faruq . Abu Tahir al-Silafi's selection from the book was also utilized for transmitting earlier compilations, such as the Fawa'id of Sulayman ibn Dawud al-Mahri .

An edition of the text was published in Damascus in 1970 . It was subsequently edited by al-Sharif Hatim al-Awni and published by Dar al-Hijrah in 1415 AH (1994 CE) .
