Man amila salihan falinafsihi (Arabic: من عمل صالحا فلنفسه, lit. 'Whoever Does Righteous Deeds Does So for Himself') is an Islamic devotional treatise by Abd al-Malik ibn Muhammad ibn Abd al-Rahman al-Qasim .
Title and Theme
The title of the work is derived from the Quranic verse, مَنْ عَمِلَ صَالِحًا فَلِنَفْسِهِ وَمَنْ أَسَاءَ فَعَلَيْهَا ("Whoever does good, it is for his own soul; and whoever does evil, it is against it") . In Quranic commentary, this phrasing denotes that the benefit, reward, and positive spiritual outcomes of righteous actions return entirely to the individual performing them, while God is independent of the obedience of the obedient and unharmed by the disobedience of the sinful . The text centers on individual accountability and the essential conditions for deeds to be accepted as righteous, namely sincerity to God (ikhlas) and compliance with the divine law (ittiba') .
