Founding and Publication History

The journal released its first issue in Damascus on April 5, 1933, under the publication concession (sahib al-imtiyaz) of Kazim al-Daghastani . It brought together a core group of prominent Syrian scholars and intellectuals, including Khalil Mardam Bek, Jamil Saliba, Kamil Ayyad, and al-Daghastani .

The periodical had a brief lifespan, described in biographical sources as lasting for one year—or around two years in another account . A total of ten issues were printed, concluding with its final issue published on June 15, 1934 . According to Ali al-Tantawi, its founders were ultimately compelled to cease publication and close the journal down despite the high caliber of its editorial board .
