Laysa Alayka Wahsha (Arabic: ليس عليك وحشة, lit. 'There Is No Desolation Upon You') is an Arabic Islamic spiritual and admonitory treatise by the contemporary Saudi author Abd al-Malik bin Qasim (full name: Abd al-Malik ibn Muhammad ibn Abd al-Rahman al-Qasim) .

Context and Authorship

Abd al-Malik bin Qasim is known for authoring widely circulated concise spiritual treatises, moral tracts, and devotional booklets aimed at contemporary Muslim audiences . Among his most prominent projects is the multivolume educational and hortatory series Ayna Nahnu min Ha'ula' (أين نحن من هؤلاء؟, "Where Are We Compared to Them?"), which highlights the piety, worship, patience, and ascetic practices of the righteous predecessors (al-salaf al-salih) in comparison to modern lifestyles .

Themes and Contents

The title and message of the book center on offering consolation and spiritual reassurance to the committed believer who feels isolated, alienated, or overwhelmed by prevailing religious laxity and corruption in society . The work draws upon classical themes of spiritual estrangement (al-ghurba), grounded in prophetic traditions such as:

بدأ الإسلام غريبًا وسيعود غريبًا كما بدأ، فطوبى للغرباء "Islam began as something strange and will revert to being strange as it began, so glad tidings to the strangers" .

The treatise echoes the classical expositions found in the works of scholars such as Ibn al-Qayyim and Ibn Rajab al-Hanbali, asserting that the estrangement experienced by those adhering strictly to the Sunnah and pure monotheism is an honourable path in which there is no true desolation (wahsha), because their companionship, solace, and alliance rest with Allah and His Messenger ﷺ rather than the approval of the multitude . Like other treatises by the author, it blends Quranic verses, prophetic hadiths, and inspiring historical anecdotes to urge steadfastness, patience, and inward tranquility .
