Kitab Allah wa Makanatuhu al-Azima

Kitab Allah wa Makanatuhu al-Azima (The Book of Allah and Its Great Status) is an Islamic treatise by Abd al-Aziz bin Abd Allah Al al-Shaykh (b. 1360 AH / 1941 CE) addressing the virtue, sanctity, and central role of the Quran in Islam.

Publication and Themes

The work was published as the opening article (Iftitāḥiyyah) of issue 63 of Majallat al-Buhuth al-Islamiyya (Journal of Islamic Research).

In the treatise, the author emphasizes that God bestowed a distinguished grace upon humanity—and upon believers in particular—by sending His Prophet Muhammad ﷺ and sending down along with him His preeminent and final revelation, which serves as a guardian (muhaymin) over all preceding scriptures. Supporting this with the Quranic verse لَقَدْ مَنَّ اللَّهُ عَلَى الْمُؤْمِنِينَ إِذْ بَعَثَ فِيهِمْ رَسُولًا مِنْ أَنْفُسِهِمْ يَتْلُو عَلَيْهِمْ آيَاتِهِ وَيُزَكِّيهِمْ وَيُعَلِّمُهُمُ الْكِتَابَ وَالْحِكْمَةَ وَإِنْ كَانُوا مِنْ قَبْلُ لَفِي ضَلَالٍ مُبِينٍ ("God has indeed conferred a favor upon the believers when He raised up among them a messenger from among themselves, reciting to them His verses, purifying them, and teaching them the Book and wisdom, whereas before they were in clear misguidance"), the text outlines the purpose of revelation as a straight path (qayyim) that warns wrongdoers and gives glad tidings of reward to those who perform righteous deeds.
