Kawashif Zuyuf fi al-Madhahib al-Fikriyyah al-Mu'asirah (Exposing the Counterfeits of Contemporary Intellectual Doctrines) is a critical treatise written by the Syrian Islamic scholar Abd al-Rahman Habannakah al-Maydani (1345–1425 AH / 1927–2004 CE) to analyze and refute modern secular, materialist, and anti-religious ideologies from an Islamic perspective . It constitutes the sixth entry in the author's specialized series A'da' al-Islam ("Enemies of Islam") addressing intellectual invasions and hostile ideological currents .
Purpose and Scope
The work carries the descriptive subtitle Dirasah 'ilmiyyah naqdiyyah tahliliyyah bi-manzar islami li-zuyuf kubrayat al-ara' wa-l-madhahib al-fikriyyah al-mu'asirah wa-a'immatiha ("A scholarly, critical, analytical study through an Islamic lens of the counterfeits of major contemporary intellectual doctrines, opinions, and their leaders") . It aims to dissect modern doctrines that oppose religion, moral values, and religious social systems, unmasking deceptive slogans, exploring the historical environments that bred them in the West, and explaining the vulnerabilities that facilitated their spread into Muslim societies .
Structure and Content
The book is organized into three major sections (aqsam):
- Part One: General Introductions (Muqaddamat 'Ammah): Divided into two main chapters (babayn). The first examines the historical climate in Europe that fostered contemporary anti-religious doctrines, the exploitation of that environment by Jewish and Zionist schemes, and the factors that made populations across the Islamic world receptive to imported foreign philosophies despite having a comprehensive revealed tradition . The second chapter examines the deceptive techniques used to market counterfeit slogans and ideologies .
- Part Two: Glittering Slogans and Specific Contemporary Doctrines: Divided into four chapters. The first addresses the elevation of human reason and secular science as substitutes for religion, focusing on rationalism (al-'aqlaniyyah) and secularism (al-'ilmaniyyah) . The second treats fabrications leveled against religion, morals, and divine laws; the third examines deceptive slogans that create false premises in public opinion, such as absolute liberty, egalitarian equality, and narrow nationalism; and the fourth profiles specific figures and doctrines across several disciplines .
- Part Three: Major Intellectual Doctrines: Covers major philosophical frameworks that exert dominant influence over nations and states, notably dialectical and philosophical materialism, offering analytical critiques to invalidate their premises and causal arguments while profiling their principal proponents .

The work was published in a single volume by Dar al-Qalam (Damascus and Beirut), with its first edition appearing in 1405 AH / 1985 CE . A second edition was published in 1412 AH / 1991 CE, followed by a third edition in 1419 AH .
