'A Hadith Fascicle Extracted by Ahmad ibn Abd al-Wahid al-Bukhari') is a hadith compendium extracted and transmitted by the Hanbali jurist and traditionist Ahmad ibn Abd al-Wahid al-Maqdisi, known as al-Bukhari (564–623 AH / 1168–1226 CE) .
Author and Context
The author was Abu al-Abbas Shams al-Din Ahmad ibn Abd al-Wahid ibn Ahmad ibn Abd al-Rahman al-Sa'di al-Maqdisi al-Dimashqi . He was born in the last ten days of Shawwal 564 AH in Mount Qasiyun, Damascus . He was the elder brother of the hadith master Diya' al-Din al-Maqdisi and the father of the transmitter Fakhr al-Din Ali ibn Ahmad (known as Ibn al-Bukhari) . He acquired the nisba al-Bukhari on account of his prolonged stay in Bukhara, where he studied legal dialectics (al-khilaf) under al-Radi al-Naysaburi and studied under Abu al-Khattab Sharaf . He traveled extensively across Iraq, Khurasan, and Transoxiana to study hadith, before settling in Homs and Damascus, where he taught hadith and jurisprudence until his death in the middle of Jumada al-Akhira 623 AH .
