Juz min Hadith al-Awzai (جزء من حديث الأوزاعي) is a specialized hadith tract compiled by the Damascene judge and jurist Ahmad ibn Hudhalam (d. 347 AH / 958 CE), bringing together narrations transmitted on the authority of the prominent Syrian jurist and traditionist Abu Amr al-Awzai .

Context and Authorship

The compiler, Abu al-Hasan Ahmad ibn Sulayman ibn Ayyub ibn Dawud ibn Abd Allah ibn Hudhalam al-Asadi al-Dimashqi, served as a deputy judge and mufti in Damascus and was regarded by biographical sources as the leading remaining scholar of the Awzai legal tradition in his era . He maintained a regular teaching circle at the Umayyad Mosque in Damascus dedicated to teaching and defending the jurisprudence of al-Awzai, alongside holding Friday dictation sessions at his residence . Within this tradition of preserving Syrian scholarship, Ibn Hudhalam assembled this thematic part (juz') to record chains of transmission stemming from al-Awzai through his Syrian teachers and transmitters .

Publication

The tract was edited by Musad al-Sadani and Sharif ibn Abi al-Ala al-Adawi and published in a single volume by Dar Majid Asiri in Jeddah (1420 AH / 2000 CE) .
