Juz min Ahadith Ibn al-Muqayyir an Shuyukhihi (A Hadith Tract of Ibn al-Muqayyir from His Teachers) is a compilation of hadith narrations transmitted by the Baghdadi-Egyptian traditionist Ibn al-Muqayyir (545–643 AH / 1150–1246 CE) from his various teachers.
Author and Context
The compiler, Abu al-Hasan Ali ibn al-Husayn ibn Ali ibn Mansur al-Baghdadi al-Najjar al-Hanbali, known as Ibn al-Muqayyir, was born in Baghdad in 545 AH and later settled in Cairo. He studied under prominent authorities such as Shuhdah al-Katibah and Ma'mar ibn al-Fakhir, and received certification (ijaza) from scholars including Abu al-Fadl Ibn Nasir and Abu Bakr ibn al-Zaghuni. In Egypt, he became renowned as the principal hadith transmitter (musnid) of the region, recognized for his high chains of transmission ('awali). He died in Cairo in the middle of Dhu al-Qi'dah 643 AH.
Transmission and Structure
The work belongs to the ajza' genre of hadith literature, bringing together narrations and benefits (fawa'id) received by Ibn al-Muqayyir from his teachers. It was also referred to in historical sources as Juz' fihi ahadith wa-fawa'id, Fawa'id Ibn al-Muqayyir, or Juz' min Hadith Ibn al-Muqayyir.
The tract was transmitted through his direct students, notably Yunus ibn Ibrahim al-Dabbusi (d. 729 AH), who transmitted several parts from Ibn al-Muqayyir to later generations. Selections from Ibn al-Muqayyir's high-chain transmissions were also compiled by contemporaries, including an extraction (intiqa') made by al-Qastallani, which was recorded alongside the main tract in subsequent bibliographical registers such as Ibn Hajar al-Asqalani's al-Mu'jam al-mufahras.
Preservation and Publication
A manuscript of the work is preserved at the National Library of Egypt (Dar al-Kutub al-Misriyya) under catalog number 25553 B. The work was edited by Khalaf Mahmud Abd al-Sami' and published by Dar al-Kutub al-Ilmiyyah in Beirut in 1423 AH / 2002 CE, included within a multi-work volume titled al-Fawa'id li-Ibn Mandah.
