Juz' fihi Ahadith Nafi' ibn Abi Nu'aym (A Monograph on the Hadiths of Nafi' ibn Abi Nu'aym) is a hadith compilation compiled by the Isfahani hadith scholar and Quran reciter Abu Bakr Muhammad ibn Ibrahim ibn al-Muqri (285–381 AH / 898–991 CE).
Subject and Content
The work belongs to the juz' genre (a single-volume, focused hadith collection) and gathers the narrations transmitted through the prominent 2nd-century Medinan Quran reciter Nafi ibn Abi Nuaym (d. 169 AH). Although Nafi' was primarily renowned as an imam of Quranic reading, biographical sources note that he transmitted about one hundred hadiths via Abu al-Zinad from al-A'raj from Abu Hurayra, another hundred directly from al-A'raj, and around fifty scattered narrations (tafariq). Ibn al-Muqri systematically extracted and compiled these narrations under his own chains of transmission.
Transmission and Reception
The book circulated among traditional hadith scholars through documented chains of audition and transmission:
- Ibn Hajar al-Asqalani recorded his transmission chain (isnad) for the work in his al-Mu'jam al-mufahras, reading it under Fatima bint al-Munajja, via Muhammad ibn Abi Bakr ibn al-Nahhas, Saqr ibn Yahya al-Halabi, Yahya ibn Mahmud, Ja'far ibn Abd al-Wahid al-Thaqafi, and Abd al-Razzaq ibn Umar ibn Shammah, back to the compiler Ibn al-Muqri. Ibn Hajar also noted that the end of this transmitted manuscript contained additional hadiths received by Ibn Shammah from Muhammad ibn Ishaq ibn Mandah.
- The work was studied in scholarly circles in Aleppo and Cairo; for instance, the scholar Abd Allah ibn Ibrahim ibn al-Hajin al-Halabi (651–731 AH) received and heard the collection from his grandfather.
Publication
The text has been edited and published by Abu al-Fadl al-Huwayni al-Athari, issued in a single volume by Dar al-Sahabah li-l-Turath in Tanta (1411 AH / 1991 CE).
