Juz fi Turuq Hadith La Tasubbu Ashabi (A Treatise on the Transmission Paths of the Hadith "Do Not Revile My Companions") is a hadith monograph compiled by the Shafi'i hadith scholar Ibn Hajar al-Asqalani (773–852 AH / 1372–1449 CE) . The work is dedicated to gathering, documenting, and examining the diverse transmission lines (turuq) and textual variations of the prophetic tradition prohibiting the disparagement or reviling of the Prophet's Companions .
Content and Method
The treatise focuses on tracing the narrations stemming from the prophetic command: لا تسبوا أصحابي ("Do not revile my Companions") . In documenting the chains, Ibn Hajar cites transmissions from various hadith collections and earlier compilations. These include narrations transmitted by Abu al-Fath al-Haddad in his Fawa'id (via Abu Tahir al-Silafi) through Isra'il ibn Yunus from al-A'mash from Abu Salih from Abu Sa'id al-Khudri .
He also reviews variant phrasings and their chains, such as the narration recorded by Khaythama ibn Sulayman in his Fada'il al-Sahaba with the wording لا تقولوا فيهم إلا خيرًا ("Do not speak of them except well"), noting the weakness in its chain of transmission .
Publication History
The treatise has appeared in print in modern editions:
- Published in Beirut in 1408 AH .
- Edited by Mashhur ibn Hasan Al Salman and published by Dar 'Ammar in Amman (First Edition, 1408 AH / 1988 CE) .
