Juz al-Muammal (Arabic: جزء المؤمل, lit. 'The Booklet of al-Muammal') is a collection of hadith assembled by the hadith scholar al-Muammal ibn Ihab (d. 254 AH / 868 CE) .
Transmission and Structure
The work belongs to the ajza' (singular: juz') genre of hadith literature, which consists of compact monographs gathering hadith narrations through a specific transmitter or chain of transmission . The author, Abu Abd al-Rahman al-Muammal ibn Ihab ibn Abd al-Aziz al-Raba'i al-Kufi al-Ramli, was originally from Kirman, lived in Kufa, and later settled in al-Ramla and Egypt .
The collection has been preserved and transmitted primarily through his student, Abu al-Fadl Ahmad ibn Abd Allah ibn Nasr al-Sulami . It records narrations that al-Muammal reported from prominent teachers of his era, such as Abd al-Razzaq al-Sanani . Among the texts cited from this collection is the prophetic tradition narrated through Abd al-Razzaq from Bishr ibn Rafi from Yahya ibn Abi Kathir from Abu Salama from Abu Hurayra: إن السلام اسم من أسماء الله فأفشوه بينكم ("Indeed, al-Salam is one of the names of Allah, so spread it among yourselves") .
Publication
The work was edited by Abu al-Fida Imad ibn Qura (also cited as Imad ibn Fara) and published by Dar al-Bukhari in Buraida (first edition, 1413 AH / 1992 CE) . In this edition, the booklet was printed alongside narrations from Musa ibn Amir al-Murri (d. 255 AH), which were likewise transmitted by Ahmad ibn Abd Allah ibn Nasr al-Sulami .
