Juz al-Hasan ibn Musa al-Ashyab (Hadith Part of al-Hasan ibn Musa al-Ashyab) is a hadith compilation containing narrations transmitted through the Baghdad scholar and judge Abu Ali al-Hasan ibn Musa al-Ashyab (d. 209 AH / 824–825 CE; a variant report states 210 AH).

Transmission and Content

The text represents a specialized hadith monograph (juz'), preserving traditions received directly from al-Ashyab. The primary transmission of the collection was carried on the authority of his student, the hadith master Bishr ibn Musa al-Asadi. It was subsequently transmitted from Bishr by Abu Ali Muhammad ibn Ahmad ibn al-Hasan al-Sawwaf, and through him down to the preservation chain of Abu Nu'aym al-Isbahani.

In his bibliography of transmitted books, Jalal al-Din al-Suyuti notes the boundaries of the text: its opening narration is the hadith of Anas ibn Malik regarding the supplication uttered when retiring to bed, and its final narration concludes with the phrase: هالك إلا بعمله ("perishing except through his deeds").

Publication

The work has been edited by Abu Yasir Khalid ibn Qasim al-Raddadi and published in a single volume by Dar 'Ulum al-Hadith in the United Arab Emirates (1410 AH / 1989–1990 CE).
