Juz Abu Hamid Ibn Bilal (Part of Abu Hamid Ibn Bilal) is a short hadith compilation featuring the narrations transmitted by the Nishapuri traditionist Abu Hamid Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn Yahya ibn Bilal al-Nisaburi, known as Ibn Bilal al-Khashshab (c. 240–330 AH / c. 854–941 CE) .

Transmission and Content

The collection represents a set of hadiths heard directly from Abu Hamid Ibn Bilal by the traditionist Abu Abd Allah Ibn Mandah in Jumada al-Akhirah 330 AH, shortly before Ibn Bilal's death in Dhu al-Hijjah of that same year . The text was subsequently transmitted through Ibn Mandah's son, Abu Amr Abd al-Wahhab ibn Muhammad ibn Mandah, and preserved across generations of hadith scholars . Transmission records on the work note public readings in Damascus, including a session before the Syrian traditionist Ali ibn Ahmad ibn Abd al-Wahid al-Maqdisi at the foot of Mount Qasiyun in Shawwal 677 AH . A session (majlis) from the hadiths of Abu Hamid Ibn Bilal was also recorded with isnads by Ibn Hajar al-Asqalani in his bibliographical register al-Mu'jam al-Mufahras .

The extant text contains twenty-eight numbered traditions narrated by Abu Hamid Ibn Bilal from leading ninth-century teachers, including Muhammad ibn Yahya al-Dhuhli, Ahmad ibn Hafs, al-Hasan ibn Muhammad al-Za'farani, Abd al-Rahman ibn Bishr ibn al-Hakam, Musa ibn Ishaq al-Kinani, Yahya ibn al-Rabi al-Makki, Ahmad ibn Mansur al-Marwazi, Ahmad ibn Yusuf al-Sulami, and Abu al-Azhar Ahmad ibn al-Azhar .

The narrations cover diverse topics in Islamic jurisprudence, etiquette, supplications, and creed . It opens with an isnad traced through al-Mughira ibn Shu'ba reporting the Prophet's ﷺ post-prayer supplication: لا إِلَه إِلا اللَّهُ وَحْدَهُ لا شَرِيكَ لَهُ الْمُلْكُ وَلَهُ الْحَمْدُ وَهُوَ عَلَى كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيرٌ، اللَّهُمَّ لا مَانِعَ لِمَا أَعْطَيْتَ وَلا مُعْطِيَ لِمَا مَنَعْتَ ولا ينفع ذا الجد منك الجد ("There is no deity worthy of worship except Allah alone, without partner; to Him belongs all dominion and praise, and He is over all things competent. O Allah, none can prevent what You give, and none can give what You prevent, and no fortune avails the fortuned one against You") . The compilation concludes with traditions on divine forgiveness and seeking martyrdom sincerely .
