Juz' Abi Abd Allah al-Attar (The Hadith Part of Abu Abd Allah al-Attar) is a hadith booklet (juz') compiled by the Baghdadi hadith master Abu Abd Allah Muhammad ibn Makhlad al-Attar al-Duri (233–331 AH / 848–942 CE), consisting of prophetic narrations transmitted through his teachers with their complete chains of transmission (isnad) .

Content and Scope

The work belongs to the traditional genre of individual hadith parts (ajza' hadithiyyah), wherein a traditionist collects selected narrations from his personal auditory transmissions . Ibn Makhlad gathered narrations that he heard directly from prominent third-century AH authorities, such as Muslim ibn al-Hajjaj, Ya'qub ibn Ibrahim al-Dawraqi, al-Zubayr ibn Bakkar, al-Hasan ibn Arafah, Muhammad ibn Uthman ibn Karama, and Salm ibn Junada . The material spans various legal and ethical hadiths preserved with their original Baghdadi and regional chains .

Transmission

The primary line of transmission for Ibn Makhlad's hadith parts passed through his student Abu Umar Abd al-Wahid ibn Muhammad ibn Abd Allah ibn Mahdi al-Farisi (d. 410 AH) . From Abu Umar al-Farisi, the text was transmitted by Abu al-Husayn Asim ibn al-Hasan ibn Muhammad al-Asimi, and subsequently through scholars such as Abu Hashim Sa'id ibn Ahmad ibn al-Banna, Abu al-Munajja Abd Allah ibn Umar ibn al-Latti al-Harbi, and Abu al-Abbas Ahmad ibn Abi Talib al-Hajjar .

Reception and Manuscripts

The work is recorded in classical bibliographical and transmission indexes under various descriptive titles, including Juz' al-Attar and Juz' Ibn Makhlad by Hajji Khalifa in Kashf al-zunun , as well as in the Fahrasah of Ibn Khayr al-Ishbili . Manuscripts of Ibn Makhlad's narrations have been preserved in historical repositories, notably in the Koprulu Library (MS 1584), the Zahiriyyah Library in Damascus within the Umariyyah collective volumes (such as Majmu 105), and the Sehid Ali Pasa collection (MS 546) . Related selections from his transmissions have also been edited and published, including his narrations from Ibn Karama and other teachers .
