Jawami al-Dua

Jawami al-Dua (Comprehensive Supplications) is a concise guide to Islamic supplications compiled by Khalid al-Juraysi as the second installment in his Zad al-Mu'min (Provision of the Believer) series .

Purpose and Reception

Al-Juraysi designed the work as an accessible handbook of comprehensive supplications (jawami' al-dua) that are easy to memorize and recite whether at home or traveling, deliberately avoiding exhaustive compilations of transmitted prayers to ensure practical ease for the reader .

The booklet includes an introductory foreword by Abd Allah ibn Abd al-Rahman al-Jibreen, dated 1 Ramadan 1421 AH (November 2000 CE), commending al-Juraysi's selection of Quranic verses, authentic prophetic traditions, supplication etiquettes, and the circumstances conducive to having prayers answered .

Structure and Contents

Following an authorial introduction, the booklet is organized into five thematic chapters :

  1. The Essence and Virtue of Supplication (Fi haqq al-dua wa-fadlih): Details the theological significance and merits of supplication as an act of worship .
  2. The Conditions and Etiquettes of Supplication (Fi shurut al-dua wa-adabih): Outlines the behavioral and spiritual requisites for supplicating .
  3. Occasions and Times of Acceptance (Fi ahwal mukhtassah bi-al-ijabah): Addresses specific moments and conditions during which supplications are answered .
  4. Selected Quranic Supplications (Fi ad'iyah mukhtarah min al-Qur'an al-Karim): Features supplications drawn from the Quran, ordered sequentially according to the arrangement of the surahs .
  5. Selected Prophetic Supplications (Fi ad'iyah mukhtarah min al-Sunnah al-Mutahharah): Gathers transmitted prayers from the Sunnah, restricted strictly to narrations deemed authentic (sahih) or good (hasan) .

Methodology

Al-Juraysi provided complete vocalization (dabt) for all included texts to facilitate proper recitation . To keep the main text uncluttered and help the reader focus on memorization, he deferred the documentation and source references (takhrij) of the hadiths to the end of the booklet . In addition to the written text, an audio recording of the selected supplications was produced to assist readers in accurate pronunciation and memorization .
