Jami‘ Turath al-‘Allama al-Albani fi al-Fiqh (The Compendium of the Heritage of Children of Learning Scholar al-Albani in Jurisprudence) is a multi-volume encyclopedic collection compiled by Shadi ibn Muhammad ibn Salim Al Nu‘man, gathering the legal rulings, deductions, and discussions of Muhammad Nasir al-Din al-Albani (1332–1420 AH / 1914–1999 CE) across his written and spoken legacy .
Background and Context
The work represents the third major set within a broader encyclopedic endeavor titled Mawsu‘at al-‘Allama al-Imam Mujaddid al-‘Asr Muhammad Nasir al-Din al-Albani, prepared by Al Nu‘man to index, classify, and preserve Albani's legacy across various Islamic sciences, preceded by collections dedicated to creed (‘aqidah) and methodology (manhaj) .
In his introduction, Al Nu‘man recorded that the compilation was carried out amidst severe turmoil and unrest in Sanaa, Yemen, where he resided . Fearing the loss of his draft manuscripts and research materials, he collected them into a travel bag and relocated to a secure location to complete and publish the work . The broader encyclopedia project was prefaced and commended by Ali Hasan al-Halabi .
Scope and Methodology
The compendium aims for exhaustive coverage (istiqsa’) rather than selective extraction (intiqa’), intending to incorporate every jurisprudence-related opinion stated by al-Albani within the compiled sources . In gathering the source material, the compiler prioritized the latest revised editions of al-Albani's books because of his well-known practice of continually revisiting, expanding, or retracting earlier conclusions .
Under the compiler's criteria for inclusion:
- Passages where al-Albani cited statements from earlier authorities while affirming and approving them were incorporated .
- Explicit legal views inferred from his use of specific punctuation—such as exclamation marks signaling disapproval—were included .
- Chapter headings framing hadiths that contain legal derivations were included even if al-Albani provided no further textual commentary .
- Recorded sessions where al-Albani acted primarily as an attentive listener were retained for their pedagogical value and as examples of his humility .
- Questions to which al-Albani replied "I do not know" or "I do not recall" were also documented to show his restraint in fatwas, as well as to complement cases where he had answered the issue elsewhere .
Structure
The collection is arranged according to the standard thematic sequence of classical legal manuals (kutub al-fiqh):
- Volume 1: Kitab al-Taharah (The Book of Purity) and the general introduction
- Volumes 2–8: Kitab al-Salah (The Book of Prayer)
- Volume 9: Ahkam al-Jana'iz (The Rulings of Funerals)
- Volume 10: Kitab al-Siyam (The Book of Fasting) and Kitab al-Zakah (The Book of Zakat)
- Volume 11: Kitab al-Hajj (The Book of Pilgrimage)
