Istidrak ma Fat min al-Ikhwa wal-Akhawat (Rectifying What Was Omitted Regarding Brothers and Sisters) is a contemporary hadith biographical work authored by Basim Faisal al-Jawabira that supplements classical treatises on sibling narrators of hadith.

Purpose and Scope

The work was written by al-Jawabira while serving as an assistant professor at the College of Sharia and Usul al-Din in Qassim. It serves as a scholarly supplement (istidrak) identifying sibling narrators who were omitted from two foundational early treatises on the subject: the compilation of Ali ibn al-Madini (Tasmiyat man Ruwiya 'anhu min Awlad al-'Ashara, which contains an extensive treatment of sibling narrators) and the book of Abu Dawud al-Sijistani (al-Ikhwa alladhina Ruwiya 'anhum al-Hadith).

Structure and Method

The author arranged the entries alphabetically according to the Arabic alphabet. In the main text, he lists each narrator alongside his or her documented brother or sister. In the accompanying critical apparatus, he documents biographical evaluations and transmission status from primary biographical dictionaries (kutub al-rijal and al-jarh wal-ta'dil), drawing on works such as al-Tarikh al-Kabir of al-Bukhari, al-Jarh wal-Ta'dil of Ibn Abi Hatim, al-Thiqat of Ibn Hibban, and Tahdhib al-Tahdhib of Ibn Hajar al-Asqalani.
