Isaf al-Labith bi-Fatawa al-Hadith (Relieving the Anxious with Hadith Legal Responsa) is a collection of hadith verifications and fatwas by the Egyptian hadith scholar Abu Ishaq al-Huwayni (d. 1446 AH / 2024 CE).

Background and Composition

The book compiles hadith responses that were originally published in Egypt in Majallat al-Tawhid, the periodical of Jama'at Ansar al-Sunnah al-Muhammadiyyah. These rulings were issued across 86 magazine issues over a period spanning from 1413 AH to 1427 AH, totaling 369 questions.

Structure and Content

The work is structured as numbered responsa to queries regarding the authenticity, chains of transmission, narrators, and hidden defects ('ilal) of individual hadiths and historical reports.

The printed edition is divided across three volumes:

  • Volume 1: Ends with question 128.
  • Volume 2: Opens with question 129 and concludes just before question 253.
  • Volume 3: Begins with question 253 and concludes the main collection, followed by a section of supplementary additions and corrections (istidrakat).

Publication

The work was published in three volumes by Dar al-Taqwa in 1432 AH / 2011 CE. A supplementary companion volume was prepared by the author for a planned second edition under the title Lata'if min 'Ilm al-Hadith bi-Mafatih Kitab Is'af al-Labith. In another listing, the collection is also recorded as comprising five volumes.
