Irshad al-Ibad ila Maani Lumat al-Itiqad (Guide for the Servants to the Meanings of Lum'at al-I'tiqad) is a work on Islamic creed by Abd al-Rahman ibn Nasir al-Barrak, providing an explanation of the creedal treatise Lumat al-Itiqad by Muwaffaq al-Din Ibn Qudama al-Maqdisi (541–620 AH / 1147–1223 CE).

Origin and Delivery

The work originated as an oral commentary delivered by al-Barrak in approximately thirty sessions at the al-Khulayfi Mosque in the al-Faruq neighborhood of Riyadh.

Compilation and Method

The text was compiled and edited by Abd Allah ibn Muhammad al-Suhaym, who was assigned the project by Muhammad ibn Abd Allah al-Habdan in coordination with Abd al-Rahman ibn Salih al-Sudays. Al-Suhaym transcribed the audio recordings of the lectures, edited and organized the material for print, and added section headings to the commented passages. He also referenced Quranic verses and provided concise takhrij of hadiths, referencing those in Sahih al-Bukhari or Sahih Muslim and otherwise generally confining citations to the Six Books.

The base text was established based on what was read before al-Barrak during the sessions alongside several printed editions. Because the recorded audio had gaps for some lessons, al-Suhaym read the entire text back to al-Barrak to complete the missing explanations, and al-Barrak reviewed the draft to approve additions, corrections, and modifications.

Publication

The commentary was published by Dar al-Tadmuriyyah in Riyadh, with its first edition appearing in 1433 AH (2012 CE).
