Hujjat al-Nabi (The Prophet's Pilgrimage) is a legal and Hadith treatise by the Syrian-Albanian scholar Muhammad Nasir al-Din al-Albani (d. 1420 AH / 1999 CE), examining the rites of the Prophet Muhammad's Farewell Pilgrimage based on the comprehensive narration of the Companion Jabir ibn Abd Allah .

Background and Method

The work centers on the detailed Hadith transmitted by Jabir ibn Abd Allah (principally recorded in Sahih Muslim), which scholars have traditionally treated as an all-encompassing template for pilgrimage rituals . In revising the text for subsequent editions, al-Albani supplemented the core narrative of Jabir's Hadith with corroborating phrases and additions from manuscripts and newly printed Hadith compendiums, including Mawarid al-Zam'an ila Zawa'id Ibn Hibban, al-Muntaqa by Ibn al-Jarud, and al-Tabaqat by Ibn Sa'd . In extensive annotations, he evaluated the authenticity of relevant reports and derived juridical rulings for various rites .

Content and Structure

The book includes introductory counsel and warnings for pilgrims against prohibited practices, including forms of associationism (shirk), shaving beards, and men wearing gold rings . It proceeds chronologically through the journey of the Prophet from Medina to Mecca and the execution of each ritual rite .

Al-Albani appended a dedicated section cataloging religious innovations (bida') related to Hajj and Umrah, as well as visitation practices at the Prophet's Mosque in Medina and al-Masjid al-Aqsa in Jerusalem .

Abridgment and Related Works

To provide a simplified handbook for general readers, al-Albani extracted and summarized the practical rulings of the pilgrimage from Hujjat al-Nabi into a shorter guide titled Manasik al-Hajj wa-al-'Umrah fi al-Kitab wa-al-Sunnah wa-Athar al-Salaf . In that abridgment, he frequently referenced Hujjat al-Nabi as the parent work (al-Asl) for complete Hadith documentation and expanded legal discussions .
